Waterstarting in High Wind

Water starting is getting back on the board without uphauling. You want this! The beach start is a great entry skill for this, as it involves similar skill in flying the rig and controlling the board. The following videos are good starting points:

The key points to learning how to waterstart are:

  • Learning how to position the sail and board while in the water with as little effort as possible.
  • Getting the sail out of the water using the wind.
  • Flying the sail over your head with one or two feet on the board, and control the board and sail while doing so.
  • Keep your centre of mass as close to the board and mast as possible.
  • Use that gust to pull you on the board.
