On this touring trip we will paddle to Oasis beach (right after Wreck beach), leaving on Saturday May 12 at 4 or 5pm, spend the night, and return the following day. Some of us will likely head back to the club early on Sunday morning, but others are planning to stay a bit longer.
Some trip details:
High tide is at 5pm going to Oasis beach. Coming back, low tide is at 11:30am. Note that the trip will only go ahead in low wind. If we get winds higher than 6-7 knots, we will instead go camping to Alouette Lake, and likely take the/some boards there. It will probably be equally as fun!
Paddling ability/experience:
To go on this trip you will need to be a level 2 paddler or an advanced level 1 paddler and be comfortable paddling for a long time at a reasonably fast pace. We are not by any means racing there, but we will be moving at a decent speed. If you haven't ever tried paddling to Wreck beach, ask yourself whether you would be comfortable paddling to Kits beach and back with no breaks or a short break. We can have a break or two on the way to Wreck beach, but they will likely be short ones. It will likely take us roughly 1:30 hours each way.
Gear:
You can't carry much gear on a SUP, of course, so weight is definitely a factor. Bring a super lightweight tent, a bivvy bag, or just a sleeping bag. We now have a 14' touring board and two 12'6'' touring boards, but others will have to go on racing boards and one strong paddler on a regular board. We will do our best to share the weight, as those on racing boards will only be able to carry a small dry bag and a small backpack.
Since this is our first touring trip, a lot will have to be decided as we go along.
If you can't come on this one, I plan to organize more soon!
